Can All Cotton Swabs Be Used To Treat Wounds?

January 5th at 5:23pm

Medical cotton swabs are divided into sterile cotton swabs and non sterile cotton swabs. Sterile cotton swabs belong to Class II medical devices, while non sterile cotton swabs belong to Class I medical devices. According to relevant national and industry standards, the requirements for medical cotton swab products themselves, production processes, packaging, and storage are stricter than those for ordinary cotton swabs.

Medical sterile cotton swabs require sterilization treatment, no irritation, direct contact with wounds, and strong water absorption. In daily life, if encountering situations such as skin abrasions, scratches, ear hole inflammation, skin surface exudation, etc. that require debridement and medication, medical sterile cotton swabs should be used to avoid infection caused by cotton swabs carrying bacteria. Non sterile medical swabs should not come into direct contact with wounds and are generally used to clean body fluids outside of the wound.

Medical sterile cotton swabs are packaged in disposable sterile packaging and can be opened for use. It should be noted that after opening the packaging, it should generally be used up within 24 hours. Otherwise, if the time is too long, the cotton swab will be contaminated by bacteria in the air, and it cannot be used to treat wounds anymore.
